This is a virtual group that meets for one and a half hours weekly. You are already doing the best you can with the knowledge you possess, and your desire to improve is evident.
Coming out to family and friends as an individual identifying within the LGBTQ+ community can often pose challenges. Family and friends may encounter difficulties in adjusting to this revelation. These challenges may arise from grieving the envisioned life for your child, coping with shattered expectations, grappling with cultural or religious disparities, or simply feeling uncertain about how to provide support. Fear of saying the wrong thing or coming across as unsupportive can also contribute to these difficulties.
This group provides a safe space to share your experiences, express your grievances and concerns, and acquire the skills to establish, sustain, and foster a safe environment. By becoming an active advocate and supporter, you will learn how to create this safe space for your friends and family members.
Jadivan serves as the group's facilitator. The structure of the group entails the first 20 minutes dedicated to ice-breaker activities and check-ins. Each participant is allotted 2 minutes to share highlights from their week, engage in a fun ice-breaker, and introduce an interest they wish to discuss during the session. The group then collectively chooses a topic for discussion, either through voting or pre-selection. Jadivan guides the topic discussion for 55 minutes, maintaining sensitivity to the group's dynamics and adhering to established guidelines. The session concludes with a 15-minute mindfulness practice.
